How Pumpkin Theatre Began
Founded in 1967 by Sister Kathleen Marie Engers as a project of the College of Notre Dame, Pumpkin Theatre’s mission is to entertain, educate and empower young children through theatrical productions and education. In 1982 the organization moved off campus and received its non-profit status performing a church in Roland Park and later at Roland Park Elementary/Middle School. From 1995 to 2013 Pumpkin Theatre was in residence at St Timothy’s School in Stevenson, MD. In July 2013 the Main Stage, offices and education programs were consolidated to the facility at Har Sinai Congregation, 2905 Walnut Avenue, Owings Mills, MD, 21117. This also marked the beginning of the Pumpkin’s School of Drama.
Currently Pumpkin Theatre staff includes full-time Artistic Director and Managing Director and also employs over a hundred artists annually for productions and education programming.
